Sled dog handler trainee
Husky Center Kolmiloukko
Inspired by Greenland Dogs seen in East Greenland, I wanted to learn more about dog sledding and related winter travel industry. I worked with 60 (later increasing to 80) very energetic Alaskan Huskies, guides and dog handlers.
The work included normal kennel work (e.g. cleaning, feeding), training runs with dog teams and participation to day-trips and overnight trips as a co-guide. As a co-guide I looked after the dog teams and assisted the main guide and clients with any task at hand in the wilderness.
Additionally I ran a café couple of times a week in the premises, including doing inventories and re-stocking supplies.
